This World Hydrography Day (21st June 2026), we recognise the vital role hydrography plays in helping us understand, manage and protect our oceans, waterways and coastal environments.
This year's International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) theme, "Transforming How Ocean Data Is Shared", highlights the growing importance of accessible, interoperable and actionable marine data. As hydrographic technologies continue to evolve, the ability to collect, process and share high-quality seabed and water column information is becoming increasingly important for safe navigation, offshore development, environmental management and scientific research.
At GeoAcoustics, this theme resonates strongly with the work we have been doing for nearly half a century. Since 1978, we have supported the global hydrographic community with robust, survey-proven acoustic systems that help hydrographers acquire reliable data in some of the world's most demanding marine environments. From bathymetric surveying and habitat mapping to offshore infrastructure inspection and coastal monitoring, our technologies continue to support the collection of the high-quality datasets that underpin modern hydrography.
This year also marks an exciting milestone with the launch of the new GeoMB Multibeam. As the latest addition to the GeoAcoustics portfolio, GeoMB builds on decades of hydrographic and bathymetric sonar expertise, providing surveyors with a powerful tool for acquiring detailed seabed data across a wide range of applications.
World Hydrography Day is also an opportunity to recognise the people behind the data; the hydrographers, surveyors, researchers and marine professionals whose work improves safety at sea, supports sustainable ocean use and expands our understanding of the underwater world.
To everyone working across the hydrographic community, thank you for your continued dedication and innovation.
Happy World Hydrography Day 2026!
